Step One

The first step is to cut out a heart template by folding a piece of paper in half and cutting a half of a heart along the fold. When you open the paper, this will be your template. Trace the heart onto a paper plate or a piece of cardboard and then cut the cardboard heart out.

Step Two

Hot glue the wooden skewer to the cardboard heart, near the bottom. At this point, you could also add a hole to the cardboard and hang a string in it, if you wanted to use the hearts as an ornament or to hang when you are done, rather than adding a wooden stick.

Step Three

Now it is time to add the yarn! Be creative here. Use different colors and different textures or do it all in the same yarn. Whatever you think will look best where the hearts are going to be used, do that! ;) Start by glueing the end of the yarn onto the cardboard heart. Now continue wrapping the heart with the yarn, glueing periodically, where the yarn needs to stay in place. If you do not use glue throughout, the yarn may move when you get part way through the project and, take it from my experience, that can be very frustrating. Continue wrapping and glueing until the cardboard is covered. Try to use different (and all) directions when wrapping so you do not get too much yarn bunched up in one spot or another and it gives a more uniform heart when you are done.

Get creative, make it your own, and most of all: HAVE FUN!!!
